After mushrooms are picked or gathered, they need to be dried and stored carefully to get rid of any moisture that could make them go bad. Mushrooms are susceptible to rot and decay when exposed to too much water. Mushrooms can be kept wet or dry, but drying them is better because they last longer. If they get wet, they should be used within a few days. Do shrooms go bad
Mushrooms, once dried, need to be stored in a dark, cool, and damp environment. Avoid exposing your mushrooms to light and air as much as possible to extend their shelf life. Shrooms mold

How long do shrooms last?
When mushrooms are dried, they keep their psychoactive effects for a long time, maybe up to a year. Mushrooms that have been exposed to water need to be refrigerated or they will spoil quickly.
Are expired shrooms dangerous?
Mold and germs can grow on magic mushrooms just as they can on any other kind of mushroom if they aren’t kept correctly. If you can see mold on your magic mushrooms, don’t eat them. Doing so could cause an allergic reaction or breathing problems in some people.
Mushrooms lose their effectiveness with time, but you may still experience some of their effects even if they are very old. They will, at most, lose some of their previous efficacy.

How to dry magic mushrooms
Air drying mushrooms is the simplest, most cost-effective, and most reliable method since it yields uniformly dry mushrooms over time. If you’re short on time, a food dehydrator is an alternative, albeit it’s more costly. One up bar
Air drying
Air-drying mushrooms takes about 1–3 days.
It is recommended that drying take place in a room that is between 60 and 70 degrees Fahrenheit and has a humidity level of between 55 and 65%. Shade mushrooms from the sun to prevent them from wilting.
Mushrooms should be spread out on a wire rack to dry in the air so that they may dry equally on all sides. Instead of using a wire rack, you may place them on a clean towel and rotate them every few hours.
When the stems of the mushrooms shatter easily, you’ll know they’re dry. Give them additional time to bend if they still need it.
If the mushrooms are taking too long to dry, you may speed up the process by placing a fan over them. They may dry too rapidly or even burn if you use an oven or other heat source to speed up the process. It’s ideal to dry at a moderate, steady pace.
Dehydrator
While a dehydrator will work, drying your magic mushrooms in the open air is the most patient and gentle method. You’ll need to keep a careful eye on them while they dehydrate in the dehydrator.
Dehydrators vary, but in general, you should dry mushrooms at a low temperature for an hour. If they seem like they’re almost done but not quite, put them back in the oven and check on them again in 10 to 15 minutes.

Best methods of storing dried and fresh, wet shrooms
Here are a few ways to store magic mushrooms—and the pros and cons of each. However, if you decide to store them, be sure to keep them in a dark place.
Storing shrooms in airtight containers
This is the best and safest way to store magic mushrooms so you can use them later. When mushrooms are exposed to oxygen, they dry out and lose their power much more quickly than when they are not. When compared to a Ziploc bag, an airtight mason jar or bottle will be far more successful in preventing oxygen from getting in. Keep them hidden away in a cool, dry location (preferably between 60 and 70 degrees Fahrenheit).
Storing shrooms in a refrigerator
We don’t advise keeping shrooms in the fridge since the cold may ruin them. It’s best to keep them in the dark and at room temperature.
Mushrooms should be cured or eaten within a week after being gathered since they would spoil otherwise. Do shrooms go bad
Storing shrooms in a freezer
As with the fridge, we don’t recommend storing mushrooms in the freezer, as cold temperatures can damage them by freezing any residual moisture. A dark place at room temperature is best
How to store wet (fresh) mushrooms
You can keep magic mushrooms in the refrigerator for a few days if you can’t dry them. However, keep in mind that, like any edible fungus, its shelf life is about a week or two. Mold and bacteria may then begin to grow on them, and eventually, they will rot and decay.
After a few days in the fridge, if the mushrooms haven’t gone bad, you may attempt drying them.
