#4: Enigma

The Enigma mushrooms are among the oddest in both look and historical context. These mushrooms don’t appear to be normal mushrooms; instead, they are “blob mutations” caused by a mutant type of P. cubensis. Enigma mushrooms develop into dense coral-like lumps, which makes them appear more like something from a coral reef than a mushroom. Enigma mushrooms don’t have any caps from which spores can spread, contrary to how mushrooms generally reproduce through spores. Instead, the only way to spread Enigma is by cloning.

#3: Pearly Gates

The Pearly Gates strain, another white-hued mushroom, is a hybrid of Melmac and True Albino Teachers. These mushrooms have small, wavy, bulbous caps, and stout stems, and are entirely white. The Melmac mushroom, known as the original Penis Envy, is the source of Pearly Gates mushrooms, which are extremely strong. Much lower doses result in potent psychedelic experiences. Four separate Yeti mushroom batches were listed among the top 15 most potent mushrooms for therapeutic use in the Spring 2022 Psilocybin Cup, with one of them being among the top 5 most potent mushrooms overall. They weren’t included in the 2021 Psilocybin Cup. Thus, don’t be deceived by this strain’s youth; people are swiftly realizing its potential and embracing it.

#1: Albino Penis Envy / Penis Envy

One of the most well-known Psilocybe cubensis strains, if not the most, is Penis Envy. Going back to the saying “a cube is a cube,” it commonly concludes with the line “…except for Penis Envy,” and this is no joke because P. cubensis mushrooms have been known to be extremely strong. Both the potency and the history of this fungus are fascinating. Rich Gee, a mycologist in Washington, is reported to have developed the strain after receiving the original spores from Terrence McKenna’s personal Amazonian collection through his acquaintance Jules Stevens. One of the most sought-after kinds of mushrooms is Penis Envy, which is well known for its potency.
